Det55 really wanted to go to Germany. Actually she wanted to see the remains of the Berlin wall but we couldn’t really fit that into our itinerary very well so we opted to spend a few days in Trier, Germany. This time we rented an apartment through Wimdu. It was walking distance from the train station which was good. The host didn’t speak English and we don’t speak German but we were able to communicate the basics. We are in a second floor apartment. There’s plenty of space for us all and the balcony overlooks a large Roman Gate and the start of the pedestrian area.
Paul and I went looking for a grocery store. There seemed to be a large selection of potted meats. Bought some fruit, cereal, frozen pizza, eggs and what we thought was toilet paper but turned out to be paper towels. It is a guessing game as to what things are. The ingredient list on the orange juice (from Austria) was written in 20 languages. Eggs don’t seem to be refrigerated here.
We discovered we don’t have internet. The kids are bummed about that. We had planned to do contact folks at the next couple of stops so that is more difficult now.
We went for an evening stroll and stopped for pastries at a little café on the square.
