Sept 1: We got underway and to the airport in plenty of time. The United person at the check in desk was amazed that we were traveling for 3 1/2 months with only carry on bags. The flight was delayed and then delayed some more due to mechanical problems. End result was we got in to O'Hare 15 min after our flight to Brussels had already left. A United person sent us to another United person who sent us to United Traveler Assistance and the incredibly helpful and kind Linda.
While rebooking us on a flight the next day and getting us squared away with hotel and meal vouchers we chatted bit and it turns out that Linda traveled with her kids when they were younger and now all of them are doing cool things sparked in some way by their travel experiences. Linda was helpful and encouraging and all the things you need after a long day of traveling a very short distance. Thank you Linda!
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” Mark Twain (a nice travel quote suggested by Linda).
