I don't usually read the obituaries but I happened to look at them yesterday and that phrase seemed to crop up a lot. Perhaps it stood out to me because some weeks back I was leaving work on a sunny Saturday morning and found paramedics just outside the front gate doing CPR on a gentleman who van had crashed into our fence after he'd had a heart attack.
Do you suppose most people die unexpectedly? Even if you are very ill and know death is coming wouldn't it be a bit unexpected the exact second it finally comes, even if it is something you've been wanting?
